Literary Disco Explores The Baby-Sitters Club
Julia, Rider, and Tod Discuss the Novel That Started It All
On this special episode, Julia, Rider, and Tod explore the novel that started it all, Kristy’s Great Idea by Ann M. Martin, answering the question: Where would a now twenty-something be without the mistakes and life lessons of Kristy, Mary Anne, Claudia, Stacey, and co.?
From the episode:
Julia Pistell: I love these books because they are a very real representation of the concerns of a ten-year-old. You know, my friend is older and cooler than me, and she thinks I look like a baby. That is real drama. The divorce stuff is so dramatic and hilarious. But like the personal tension of Kristy having an idea and wanting her idea to happen, being kind of impatient and not being able to shoehorn it through without a little bit of emotion. That feels so real to me, although it is possible that I read so many of these books and it just became my reality and how I think.
