Happy birthday to Keanu Reeves, indie art-book publisher.

As you may have noticed from the state of the internet, today is Keanu Reeves’ birthday. He is 56. (56!) But just in case you didn’t know, when Keanu is not reading while walking or hanging out with puppies or, you know, crashing romantic comedies in epic form, he also runs X Artists’ Books, a small press that he founded in 2017 with the visual artist Alexandra Grant, who is also his girlfriend. Since then, XAB has been publishing “aggressively esoteric titles” that might not have otherwise seen the light of day. Bless.

Reeves, of course, is also a published author: he collaborated with Grant on adapting one of his poems into the illustrated book Ode to Happiness, “an archly sullen self-care guide in the Sendakian mode,” and more recently, Shadows, “which paired Grant’s chromatic images of Reeves’s own silhouette with his gnomic meditation on loss, impermanence and acceptance.”

Well, I know how I’ll be celebrating this High Holy Day.
