According to the Associated Press, Salman Rushdie was stabbed at a Chautauqua, NY event where he was set to deliver a lecture:

An Associated Press reporter witnessed a man storm the stage at the Chautauqua Institution and begin punching or stabbing Rushdie as he was being introduced. The author was taken or fell to the floor, and the man was restrained.

No further details have been released yet about the attacker, or about Rushdie’s condition.

UPDATE: Police are reporting that Rushdie was stabbed in the neck, and that a suspect is in custody.
