Each December, The Rumpus partners with another organization to celebrate the holiday season. Usually, we gather in person in New York City. This past year, because of the pandemic, we came together virtually via Zoom.

We were especially eager to bid farewell to 2020—and, with help from our friends at Barrelhouse and Books Are Magic, we brought together a group of writers we knew would bring joy to the end of a very long, dark year. On Thursday, December 10th, we gathered for inspiring readings from and conversation with Kaveh Akbar, Cortney Lamar Charleston, Danielle Evans, Melissa Febos, Christopher Gonzalez, and Megan Stielstra. Marisa Siegel, editor-in-chief of The Rumpus, served as emcee and moderator.

Launched during the coronavirus pandemic as virtual literary communities began emerging in vital and unexpected ways, The Virtual Book Channel seeks to provide the best possible platforms for writers to reach their readers. The VBC (aka “The Veeb”) is a curated channel that archives live-streamed programming through partnerships with independent bookstores, literary festivals, authors' WFH spaces, and more.
