Today in charming commute stories: two strangers bonding over Stay Sexy & Don’t Get Murdered.

This morning on the 2 train, I witnessed something really rare and surprisingly lovely. Not screaming schoolchildren or obnoxious tourists or people proselytizing, but two total strangers genuinely connecting over a book! It started like this: the woman sitting next to me pulled out a copy of Stay Sexy & Don’t Get Murdered, written by the hosts of the wildly popular My Favorite Murder podcast.

Now, I love this podcast and I do have a favorite murder and I am excited to read this book, but there comes a time in everyone’s morning when they must decide: are they the kind of person that breaks through another commuter’s cone of silence?

I wasn’t today, but thank god the woman sitting across from us was. She held out her My Favorite Murder keychain, and they started talking about the podcast, the book, and the upcoming signing, where I hope they meet again.
