The Translated Literature Longlist for the 2018 National Book Awards

The National Book Foundation has announced the ten books contending for this year’s National Book Award in Translated Literature, a category added earlier this year. The books on the longlist have been translated from nine different languages (French, Spanish, Arabic, Tamil, Norwegian, Italian, Japanese, Polish, and Russian), and come in the form of eight novels, one story collection, and one work of nonfiction. The longlisted titles were chosen from a total of 142 books submitted to the foundation by publishers, and will be judged by a panel comprised of Karen Maeda Allman, Sinan Antoon, Harold Augenbraum (Chair), Susan Bernofsky, and Álvaro Enrigue. All of the National Book Award Finalists will be announced on October 10, and the winners will be announced on Wednesday, November 14th at the 2018 National Book Awards Ceremony and Benefit Dinner in New York City.
