    The New American Voices Award finalists recommend books on immigrants’ experiences.

    The Institute for Immigration Research has announced its finalists for the New American Voices Award, which recognizes “recently published works that illuminate the complexity of human experience as told by immigrants.”

    The finalists are Sindya Bhanoo’s Seeking Fortune Elsewhere, Daphne Palasi Andreades’s Brown Girls, and Aamina Ahmad’s The Return of Faraz Ali. Patricia Engel, who won last year’s award, is judging this year’s prize along with Huan Hsu and Chrisopher Castellani, and they will announce the winners in the fall.

    All three authors recommended some of their favorite books that focus on immigrants’ experiences. Here are their picks:
