The eldest Kardashian would like you to know that she can, in fact, read.

Heads up: “You didn’t read that” is the new “You didn’t eat that,” because food and books are both good and life-sustaining things that look nice in Instagram pictures. Or something. Kourtney Kardashian posted a picture of herself reading Emma in a bathtub on Instagram. The purpose of the post was to advertise her new essential oil diffuser kit.

Given that Emma Woodhouse is probably the Austen character most likely to tell you about her expensive self-care rituals, I think Kardashian’s choice of reading material is a good one. The intrepid reading truthers of Instagram, though, took to the comments to accuse Kardashian not only of not actually reading this book, but of never having read any book.

Kardashian responded to a few commenters, telling one that she had, in fact, graduated college, replying to another with the name of the book in the picture (again, Emma), and telling a third that she “tr[ies] to read every night.” Notably, none of these comments is confirmation that she has read Emma, or any book, but I will give her the benefit of the doubt (mostly because this question does not deserve the energy skepticism requires).

Meanwhile, I continue to maintain that Jane Austen would have loved the Kardashians.
