The 12 Best Book Covers of February
Red, Red, Everywhere
Another month of books, another month of book covers. Appropriately enough, red was a major theme in my favorite covers this month—though fewer flowery reds and more…ketchupy reds? In case you’re feeling hungry, here are a few of the best book covers of February, for your enjoyment:
Daniel Poppick, The Copywriter; cover design by Matt Dorfman (Scribner, February 3)
I love the semi-literal gesture at notebooks within notebooks, but most of all, I love the little head.
Emily Nemens, Clutch; cover design by Beth Steidle, art by Wayne Thiebaud (Tin House, February 3)
Same, lady.
Anastasiia Fedorova, Second Skin: Inside the Worlds of Fetish, Kink, and Deviant Desire; cover design by Nicole Caputo (Catapult, February 3)
The texture! The mystery! It’s so odd and so good.
Jenny Tinghui Zhang, Superfan; cover design by Clay Smith (Flatiron, February 3)
Perfect 90s realness.
Ej Dickson, One Bad Mother, cover design by Madelyn Rodriguez (S&S/Simon Element, February 10)
A deeply unnerving cover that makes a perfect paring with Evil Genius (see below).
Helle Helle, tr. Martin Aitken, They; cover design by Erik Carter (New Directions, February 10)
Almost impossibly charming.
Claire Oshetsky, Evil Genius; cover design by Vivian Rowe (Ecco, February 17)
Excellent marriage of image and text.
Mark Haddon, Leaving Home: A Memoir in Full Colour; cover design by Mark Haddon (Doubleday, February 17)
Idiosyncratic, amusing, and somehow emotional, Haddon’s own cover is perfect for his book.
Mohammed Hanif, Rebel English Academy; cover design by Jeff Miller (Grove Press, February 17)
So much going on here, but I am particularly fond of the cow.
Maria Stepanova, tr. Sasha Dugdale, The Disappearing Act; cover design by Oliver Munday (New Directions, February 17)
So simple and so perfect.
Kyle Minor, How to Disappear and Why; cover design by Danika Isdahl (Sarabande, February 24)
Oddly timeless.
Beth Ann Fennelly, The Irish Goodbye; cover design by Sarahmay Wilkinson (W.W. Norton, February 24)
A feat of positioning.
