Florida man and failed presidential candidate Ron DeSantis will vote today—along with the state’s attorney general, chief financial officer and agriculture commissioner, all republicans—to approve a very shady “grift” “gift” to Donald Trump’s presidential library foundation. The gift in question is a plot of land in downtown Miami owned by Miami Dade College, last appraised at $67 million but which could fetch as much as $250 million on the open market.

According to the Miami Herald:

The Miami Dade College Board of Trustees agreed to transfer the land to the state in a special board meeting last week with no debate, no public comment or discussion of the fact the land was intended for a presidential library. After the vote, the college’s president and vice chairman told the Miami Herald that even they weren’t entirely sure what the state wanted to do with the property, located immediately south of the Freedom Tower.

Yes, the ostensible purpose of the land is as a location for Donald Trump’s Presidential Library (lol) but “according to a longtime Republican operative with knowledge of the discussions” there are also plans to build a high-rise hotel right next door—you know, standard library shit.

Fishier still (again, per the Miami Herald):

A new state law passed this summer gives the state full “regulatory authority” over presidential libraries in Florida, and banned local government agencies from passing any resolutions or rules about presidential libraries. It’s not clear if the law would apply to a hotel built along with a presidential library.

You don’t have to be a card-carrying member of antifa to see what’s happening here. Donald Trump has a long history of using (and abusing) his nonprofit foundations like ATMs and the Donald J. Trump Presidential Library Foundation is no exception. Just listen to what Senator Elizabeth Warren had to say in July, as she introduced a bill to regulate presidential library “funding”:

Donald Trump is using his presidential library as a tool for bribery while he is still in office. Many of the donations to Trump’s future library are coming straight from companies and special interests that need a favor from Trump. Right now there are no rules. [Go Liz! Zohran-Warren ‘28!]

The corruption is so obvious at this point that (and I can’t believe I’m agreeing with Ted Cruz, here) it makes the Jersey mob look subtle. Not many of you reading this will be shocked to know the presidency is for sale but damn… even I didn’t think American fascism would be such a cheap and tawdry affair.
