Remembering the Great Robert Stone
Reflections from Ann Beattie, Tobias Wolff, Joyce Carol Oates and more
Robert Stone is perhaps best known for his 1975 National Book Award-winning novel Dog Soldiers, a searing account of America’s post-1960s slide into the dark Mansonian paranoia of the early 70s. The author of seven other novels, a short story collection, and a non-fiction account of his experiences deep in the counterculture of 1960s, Stone died in January of this year, at the age of 77. He is remembered here by his friends and admirers, via Narrative Magazine.
