READER MAILBAG: This little library in Vermont needs your help!
Ok, so Lit Hub doesn’t actually have a literal mailbag, but we do get a ton of emails. Though most of them are some combination of belligerent and aloof, we occasionally get earnest requests for help, generally of the smalltown variety. Case in point, this very thoughtful reader emailed from the north country about what sounds like a lovely little library in need of aid:
The little library in rural South Ryegate, Vermont, needs our help. Founded in 1950, it’s been a focal point for the community for more than 70 years, operating on a very small budget, and having just $400 for book purchasing each year. Unfortunately, the town accidentally left the library’s $5,000 annual funding off from their once-a-year budget meeting so the library has no way to keep the lights and the internet up and running, let alone have story hours and craft activities for the children. It’s a small library with a lot of heart.
Here’s their GoFundMe or you can mail a check (or send books) to South Ryegate Library c/o Ginny Ross, 2025 Gilfillan Road, South Ryegate, VT, 05069
There you have it, dear reader, a chance to do a little good in the world. What are you waiting for?
