Here is the 2023 Republic of Consciousness Prize shortlist for the U.S. and Canada.
Thirty-five thousand dollars is on offer for winners of the 2023 Republic of Consciousness Prize, which aims to support small-press works and is open to U.S. and Canadian works.
The Prize notes that “most often it is the small publishers who take the largest creative and financial risks and yet, in a purely financial sense, they are least able to do so.” Judges include Lori Feathers of Interabang Books, Javier Ramirez of Exile in Bookville, founder of the UK Republic of Consciousness Prize Neil Griffiths, and author Ben Fountain.
This morning the shortlist was announced, and is as follows:
Gabriela Ponce, Blood Red, translated from the Spanish by Sarah Booker (Restless Books)
Arinze Ifeakandu, God’s Children Are Little Broken Things (A Public Space Books)
Jon Fosse, A New Name, Septology VI-VII, translated from the Norwegian by Damion Searls (Transit Books)
Hans von Trotha, Pollak’s Arm, translated from the German by Elisabeth Lauffer (New Vessel Press)
Suzette Mayr, The Sleeping Car Porter (Coach House Books)
