It’s here: the final day of the National Book Foundations’ longlist announcements. Yep, it’s time for the fiction list, as chosen by judges Dorothy Allison, Ruth Dickey, Javier Ramirez, Danzy Senna (Chair), and Jeff VanderMeer from a pool of 397 submitted books. It includes two debut short story collections, three debut novels, and only one book from a previous National Book Award winner, Colson Whitehead.

The finalists in all categories will be announced on October 8, and the winners revealed at the National Book Awards Ceremony on November 20 in New York City. And if you missed all the excitement this week, check out the longlists for Young People’s LiteratureTranslated Literature, Poetry, and Nonfiction, too.
