Everyone on Book Twitter is recommending their favorite short story collections

Do you love short stories? Reading ’em, writing ’em, defending ’em against those who would dare dismiss them as a lesser literary form. You do? Well, good news! It would appear that you are very much not alone.

It’s been five hours and counting since Executive Director of the National Book Foundation Lisa Lucas provided a welcome distraction from the Monday blues by tweeting this out:

In that time, pretty much every active member of Book Twitter has responded to Lucas’ clarion call with a list of their favorite short fiction collections, from Dubliners to Friday Black, The Things They Carried to Her Body and Other Parties, and hundreds upon hundreds more.

I’m no listicle historian, but I am going to go out on a limb and say that Lucas’ tweet has prompted the creation of one of the most comprehensive reading lists of short story collections ever. Now, to the bookshelves.
