Netflix has released a teaser trailer for Leave the World Behind, a star-studded psychological thriller based on Rumaan Alam’s 2020 novel.

Directed by Sam Esmail (Mr. Robot), the film stars Julia Roberts and Ethan Hawke as Amanda and Clay, a pair of wealthy Brooklynites vacationing with their teenage children in a luxury Airbnb on a remote part of Long Island. One night, two strangers (Mahershala Ali and Myha’la) appear at the door, “seeking refuge from a cyberattack that grows more terrifying by the minute, forcing everyone to come to terms with their places in a collapsing world.”

Netflix won a bidding war for the novel back in 2020, with Julia Roberts and Denzel Washington set to star in and produce the film adaptation. Washington later left the project and was replaced by two-time Oscar-winner Ali.

Leave the World Behind will have its world premiere at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre on October 25, 2023. It is scheduled to be released in limited theaters on November 22, and by Netflix on December 8, 2023.
