Caro-head Matthew Rhys wants to make a Power Broker show with Netflix.
As Lit Hub’s resident Caro-head, it is my sworn duty to bring you any and all news about Caro, The Power Broker, or any updates on how the latest LBJ volume is going.
The latest news for the Broker-pilled is a possible streaming adaptation. Actor Matthew Rhys was on an episode of Conan O’Brien’s podcast earlier this week and as is often the case when two fans of Caro get together, the conversation turned to a shared love of Robert. As The Hollywood Reporter transcribed:
“At the moment, dear Mr. Caro, he doesn’t have an issue with handing over the rights to The Power Broker. The agencies and publishing houses do. So at the moment, it’s in this stalemate whereby I know the Flix called Net are trying to…”
“Work things out,” O’Brien adds.
“Yes, and acquire the rights to The Power Broker,” Rhys added. “It’s been pitched. They do want to do it.”
The episode features more gushing about The Power Broker (“It lays Shakespeare to the sword,” says Rhys) and about Caro (“He knows I’m a huge fan and an acolyte of his,” says O’Brien). Again, a pretty standard Caro-head hang.
I love Rhys’s acting and I think Netflix could do this project justice, but at the moment this is just another Caro project to wait for. In the meantime, we’ll have to be bide our time with Caro’s books, Rhys’s great acting and wig work on The Americans, and another great show about civic development, Show Me a Hero.
