Wendy Call co-edited Telling True Stories: A Nonfiction Writers’ Guide (Penguin, 2007) and wrote No Word for Welcome (Nebraska, 2011), winner of the Grub Street National Book Prize. “Beautiful Flesh,” which first appeared in the Georgia Review, is part of an essay series. Other essays in the series have appeared in American Journal of Nursing, Bellingham Review, StoryQuarterly, and Yes! magazine. “Beautiful Flesh” was inspired by artist residencies Wendy Call completed at Harborview Medical Center and the American Antiquarian Society.
