Marjoleine Kars is professor of history emerita at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County and she now teaches at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). A noted historian of slavery, she is the author of Blood on the River: A Chronicle of Mutiny and Freedom on the Wild Coast (The New Press), winner of the 2021 Cundill Prize in History and the Frederick Douglass Book Prize for 2021. She lives in Cambridge, MA.
