Ara A. Francis is a micro sociologist at College of the Holy Cross with a Ph.D. in sociology from the University of California, Davis. Her publications include Family Trouble: Middle Class Parents, Children’s Problems, and The Disruption of Everyday Life, a book drawn from interviews with 55 parents whose children face challenges ranging from learning disabilities to substance addictions. Her latest project explores alternative end-of-life care, and she is interviewing death midwives and end-of-life doulas to learn more about how they support dying people and their loved ones.
