WATCH: Candice Iloh in Conversation with Ibi Zoboi
Hosted by Greenlight Bookstore
Candice Iloh, author of National Book Award Finalist and Printz Honor book Every Body Looking, presents their highly anticipated second novel, Break This House.
Yaminah Okar left Obsidian and the wreckage of her family years ago. She and her father have made lives for themselves in Brooklyn, and she thinks she has moved on to bigger and better things. She thinks she has finally left behind that city she would rather forget. But when a Facebook message about her estranged mother pierces Yaminah’s new bubble, memories of everything that happened before her parents’ divorce come roaring back—and Yaminah must finally reckon with the truth about her mother and the looming collapse of a place she once called home. Both heartrending and hopeful, Break This House demonstrates the ramifications of addiction, gentrification, and grief on one family as Yaminah explores the childhood home she left behind.
Greenlight is delighted to host our former Brooklyn neighbor to read and talk with acclaimed fellow YA author Ibi Zoboi (Punching the Air, Star Child).
