The new UK arm of Bookshop.org raised £100k for independent bookstores in nine days.

As you may know, Bookshop.org, an alternative to Amazon that shares proceeds of every sale it makes with independent booksellers, recently launched in the UK (missing the obvious opportunity of rebranding itself “Bookshoppe”). And when I say recently, I mean nine days ago; in that time, the site has generated over £100,000 in profit for indie bookstores. Bookshop estimates this figure is the equivalent of an extra day’s trading profit for each participating store—a much-needed boost in a time when so many independent bookstores are struggling.

Thanks, Bookshop! If you are in America and want to get in on the fun of supporting indie bookstores, you can shop our Bookshop recommendation lists of the decade’s best fiction and nonfiction.
