Fiona McFarlane was born in Sydney, Australia. She holds degrees in English from Sydney University and Cambridge University, and was a Michener fellow at the University of Texas at Austin. Her first novel, The Night Guest, was a finalist for the Guardian First Book Award and the Los Angeles Times Book Prize. She is also the author of a short-story collection, The High Places. She lives in Sydney.
