Noah Baumbach is publishing a book.
I would have guessed autobiographical novel, or perhaps quirky short story collection, but no; as reported by Deadline earlier today, the writer-director of The Squid and the Whale, Marriage Story, and White Noise is currently working on a memoir, which has just been snapped up by Knopf.
We don’t have many details about the as-yet untitled book—which the publisher acquired as an outline in a highly competitive auction—other than that it will chart Baumbach’s “life and career through key experiences and his relationship with cinema.”
Baumbach’s latest project was co-writing Barbie with his wife (multi-hyphenate Oscar nominee Greta Gerwig), so you’d imagine this summer will be a busy one for the couple. Baumbach may have to wait until the fall (by which point Barbie will have completed her domination of J. Robert Oppenheimer at the box office) before he can sequester himself in a cabin upstate and get down to the torturous business of book-writing.
Best of luck with it all, Noah.
