AbeBooks has published a list of the most expensive books they sold this year, with The Complete Works of Abraham Lincoln, which sold for $40,000, at the top. Better luck next year, signed Harry Potter deluxe set ($38,560)! A first edition of The Maltese Falcon and Mark Twain’s complete writings in 25 volumes both sold for $25,000.

My personal favorite article on the list isn’t a book at all, but a letter from Greta Garbo to Mimi Pollak ($18,000) in which Garbo writes of her relationship with John Gilbert, “He has a very pleasant home with everything you might want—tennis, swimming pool, servants, cars, everything to make life easier. But I still wander home to my ugly old hotel room. Why?” Stars: they’re just like us(?)
