    Colson Whitehead is the first novelist to grace the cover of TIME since 2010

    This week, Colson Whitehead is on the cover of TIME, with an accompanying profile, written by Mitchell S. Jackson, and the cover line “America’s Storyteller.” He is the first novelist to be featured on the cover of the weekly magazine since Jonathan Franzen in 2010. Franzen himself was the first in 10 years—before him was Stephen King, in 2000—so we’re basically keeping pace. (Maybe in 2029 it will be a woman! (Just kidding, there definitely won’t be magazines by then.)) In the meantime, here’s the very stately cover:
