Check out a cool new guide to indie bookstores on the West coast.

Alta Journal just released a map for the Western bookstore road trip of my dreams: it’s a guide to indie bookstores on the West coast (with a few options from the desert and other non-coastal spots thrown in, because why not).

A lot of the picks, as to be expected, are clustered around cities like San Diego, Los Angeles, and San Francisco, but some amazing stores from outside those urban areas also made it in (hey, Point Reyes Books and Gallery Bookshop in Mendocino)!

The list was “selected by Alta Journal contributors, editors, and readers,” which might account for some of the omissions on the list (where’s East Bay Booksellers?), but Alta created a form where you can flag any others they should include (like East Bay Booksellers). In the meantime, if anyone wants to start planning a Joshua Tree-area bookstore visit and share the $7-per-gallon cost of gas… I’m in.
