Brittney Griner’s memoir will be a spring 2024 title.
Olympian and WNBA star Brittney Griner will co-write a memoir about her experience being detained by Russia in 2022 while headed over to play for UMMC Ekaterinburg, Deadline reports. Griner was behind bars for 10 months as the diplomatic debacle played out, and will recount:
the harrowing experience of her wrongful detainment (as classified by the State Department) and the difficulty of navigating the byzantine Russian legal system in a language she did not speak. Griner also describes her stark and surreal time living in a foreign prison and the terrifying aspects of day-to-day life in a women’s penal colony.
It is not her first book! Griner published In My Skin: My Life On and Off the Basketball Court in 2015 with co-writer and ESPN alum Sue Hovey. The new memoir will publish with Knopf, who acquired the book.
Along with raising awareness of other American citizens wrongfully detained overseas, Griner will write a young adult adaptation for Random House Children’s Books at a later date. A star!
