Bookshop UK is launching a series of online events.

The UK arm of Bookshop.org, the online retailer that partners with indie bookstores, has a new initiative on the way: it’s launching a series of online events for its customers as well as customers of unaffiliated indies. For the first event on March 23rd, Bookshop is partnering with Faber to host a conversation with Kazuo Ishiguro about his new novel, Klara and the Sun; the conversation will be hosted by Nic Bottomley, co-founder of indie bookstore Mr. B’s Emporium of Reading Delights. The details of future Bookshop events have yet to be released; publishers can submit authors for consideration.

Here’s how the partnership works: all customers that have purchased the novel via Bookshop.org will be sent the free event link. In addition, any indie bookstore—even ones not registered with Bookshop—will be able to send a link to customers who have purchased the novel as well. Said Nicole Vanderbilt, managing director at Bookshop UK, “By making tickets free to all independent bookshop customers, whether they are Bookshop.org users or not, we hope to encourage book buyers to choose indie bookshops, no matter how they choose to buy from them.”
