Yes, it gives me no small amount of pleasure to report that 81-year-old ET Hall of Famer Adrian Lyne—the man who brought us 9½ Weeks, Fatal Attraction, Indecent Proposal, and Unfaithful—has returned, after a two-decade hiatus, to what he does best: making twisty, thrilling, cinematic smut.

Lyne’s comeback picture is the long-awaited, long-delayed, Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas-starring Deep Water—based on Patricia Highsmith’s 1957 novel about an unhappily married couple who begin playing deadly, eroticized mind games with one another—the first trailer for which has just been released by Hulu.

Remarkably, there’s now been at least one major Highsmith movie adaptation in each of the last eight decades.
