And the winner of the 2024 Booker Prize is . . .
The winner of the 2024 Booker Prize is Samantha Harvey for her novel Orbital (Grove Press). The announcement was made by Edmund de Waal, Chair of the 2024 judges, in a ceremony in London, on November 12.
de Waal described the novel as “a book about a wounded world,” and noted that the panel’s “unanimity about Orbital recognizes its beauty and ambition.”
Orbital tells the story of a day in the life of six astronauts on the International Space Station as they meditate on humanity and Earth’s splendor.
You can read an excerpt from the book here, plus and an essay by Samantha Harvey about her “space pastoral” novel.
