For the next seven days Literary Hub will help in counting down the days until the seventh-annual Irish Arts Center PoetryFest begins by publishing a poem, as selected by festival co-curator Belinda McKeon.

Wants, by Leontia Flynn

Over the acres and spaces and pages and screens

news of what we want comes

to keep us informed.  Everything is clean

and efficient.  Everything saves time.

There is a new version of a thing –

and I want one.

I want to live each day and love the skin I’m in

I want to lose that holiday half stone.

And when the winter sky leaches and fades out

in town

above Tile Magic or The Game Zone

I want a bed of snow – bleached, whiter than white:

fine Linen

and the sheets turned down.

Literary Hub is a proud sponsor of Irish Arts Center PoetryFest.
