Exciting adaptation news: A24 and Rhombus Media have optioned the rights to Viet Thanh Nguyen’s The Sympathizer, Nguyen’s Pulitzer-winning debut novel about a half-French, half-Vietnamese army captain who serves as a communist double agent after the fall of Saigon. The novel is being developed into a television series, directed by Park Chan-wook, the director behind The Handmaiden and Oldboy.

On Twitter, Nguyen announced he will be talking more about the project on the A24 podcast with Minari’s Lee Isaac Chung, so more details may be forthcoming—but given the director and the source material, we don’t need any more information to get excited.
